That’s a thing about existential threats and the ones monitoring them…
What are individuals or even a whole species against protecting the whole space-time continuum and ALL life in all of the multiverse? And the one protecting this are the Tirinites right now, it was the Slorn before.
There are differences in how they do it, even if they are subtle, but don’t take my word for it, it’s been a long journey:
The Slorn believed that only “the true future” was acceptable, and anything else had to be culled out. The Tirinites believe there can be different potential futures, but some must never come to pass. If in a timeline the human race gain access the the time spice, and there is no way to prevent humans from getting it one way or another (like a key event, I forgot the name for events that can’t be changed fundamentally, you can change *who* does it but it will happen no matter how you try to prevent it), and it has been stated already that people using the time spice without the most extreme precautions and analysis could eventually tear all of existence apart in all timelines and at all time, so it would require drastic measures to make it impossible for any human to destroy existence, even if it means a genocide.
What is worse, a controlled genocide or the end of time and space?
We could argue that there would be other methods instead, but I’d think the Tirinites would have tried all or most of them before and concluded there was no other ways. So yes, they can be more dangerous, but it’s the argument between the “benevolent tyranny” of the Slorn and letting people chose their future and only culling the futures that threaten all others.
The Slorn wanted the universe to live the future *they* chose for it, usually killing anyone that gets in the way; the Tirinites want a multiverse that thrives in different ways and only resort to these extremes when nothing else works and existence is at risk, otherwise they try to influence events without the need to kill as much as possible.
But yeah, any person or group with near-absolute power are dangerous, but it’s even more dangerous to let people without any scruples accidentally destroy everything out of stupidity, or worse, people destroying everything because they can, or create a future even worse…
It’s the aeons-old debate between more liberty or more security. All liberty and no security, eventually even liberty dies from people abusing it and removing liberty from others (or well, the universe fucking dies). All security and no liberty, and at best things stagnate or they boil over and a revolution happens.
The Slorns were the embodiment of the second option, Flynn and many other people were people who wanted the first option without fully realizing the dangers. Tirinites try to be inbetween, juggling between liberty and security to prevent reality from collapsing. Sometimes it means doing extreme things for the good of all…

Okay, is Miss Sophie going to be okay with this? Or will she be next? 🙁
Weiser
Hey Robbie, you cannot find this video in your database because it will only be recorded in the future.
T-Stock
Wow… talk about “loose lips sinking ships”!! Sophie is gonna have one heck of a time wrapping her head around THIS little tidbit of information!
T-Stock
It will also be interesting to see what – if anything – Miss Fifi does about THIS information! (Loose lips, ya know…)
Joe Fonebone
Sounds to me as though the Tirinites are just as dangerous as the Slorn, if not more so.

It’s Fifi that’s the leak. It’s too literal minded, with no judgment.
